Myrtle Maxene Martin – Obituary

Myrtle Maxene Martin, 73, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Dogwood Plantation in Fulton. She was born September 24, 1942, in Grenada County to Lonnie and Lourse Thomas Norris. She was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church. She was active in GMA church ministries and mission outreach to the elderly and shut-ins. She loved football, basketball, and baseball. She was a great cook especially known for her catfish, crappie, and the best chicken and dressing. The cornerstone of her family and loved by all, she was a devoted wife and mother and was considered as a second mother to people everywhere. She deeply loved her children and grandchildren and supported them in all their endeavors. She was a prayer warrior who looked for the good in every person and every situation. Unselfish towards others, she was a mentor to the young and old. She loved hosting garage sales and never met a stranger. She lived by her favorite bible verse, Romans 13:8.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the Greenwood Baptist Church with Bro. Gary O’Neal and Bro. Kelby Johnson officiating. Private burial will follow in Keyes Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is entrusted with arrangements.

Survivors include her sons, Mark Martin (Tina) of St. Augustine, Fla., and Matt Martin (Patte) of Clinton; her daughter, Mary Ann King (Matt) of Fulton; one brother, Chester Norris (Lynette) of Fulton; one sister, Hazel Nichols (Waldo) of the Ryan’s Well community; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Aaron Dudley Martin, on August 25, 2015; two brothers, R. C. Norris and Robert Norris; one sister, Frances Nichols; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Norris, Ronald Pettigo, Jason Pettigo, Terry Roberts, Brad Norris, Brent Norris, Wayne Loden, and Jason Dodson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Waldo Nichols, David Nichols, Chester Norris, Mike Tate, Tip Norris, Andy Nichols, Ryan Cooper, and Jake Norris.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 18, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Greenwood Baptist Church.
