Athens Fire and Rescue, Athens-Limestone Ambulance Service and the Police Department responded. When emergency personal arrived on the scene they located the body of Kevin Kirk Bell on the ground between two of the apartment buildings. Bell had been shot one time in the face. Bell was 41 years old and lived at Higgins Court Apartments with his mother.
Late this afternoon our suspect turned himself in to the Decatur Police Department. I appreciate Chief Nadis Carlisle for personally contacting the suspect’s family and his staff for working with our department to bring this case to a peaceful resolution.
At this time I can’t release a motive for the shooting. We have several other people we need to talk with and would like to get the suspect’s side of the story before we release the motive.
At this time, the suspect is not under arrest.”
