Born in Sheffield, Fred Thompson passes. He was 73.
NASHVILLE – He was the U.S. Senate’s Legal Counsel on the Watergate Hearings. In 1985 took a movie role playing himself as a Tennessee lawyer; and from there acted in films such as, “The Hunt For Red October”, “Die Hard 2”, “Days Of Thunder”, and “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee”. among others. He had numerous TV roles, and in 2007 launched an unsuccessful campaign for the Republican Presidential nominee.
He served in the United States Senate from 1994 through 2003, representing the State of Tennessee.

Fred Thompson, born in 1942 at Colbert County Hospital in Sheffield, died yesterday. Reports indicate that Thompson, who grew up in Lawrenceburg, returning to the Shoals to attend Florence State College (now the University of North Alabama), died from a protracted fight against lymphoma, a type of cancer.
Funeral arrangements have not been released.
