DECATUR- The Decatur Police Department is looking for a “Good Samaritan”who was of assistance in an arrest on Friday, August 14:
“In 2008, Ronald William Flick Jr. was convicted of Sexual Abuse in the
First degree for abusing a child younger than 13 years of age. As a result of this conviction, Flick is required to register with the law enforcement agency within whose jurisdiction he works and resides pursuant to Section 15-20A-10 of the Code of Alabama.
Flick’s last reported residence was in the jurisdiction of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department. In August of this year, the Sheriff’s Department
obtained a warrant for Flick for failing to comply with his registration requirements.
On Friday night, August 14, 2015 at approximately 9:30pm, a Decatur police officer who was working off-duty at Parkway Medical Center received information that Flick was in the Parkway Emergency Room and had an active felony warrant. The officer approached Flick and asked his name. Flick gave the officer a false name. The officer had already confirmed Flick’s identity and directed him outside, away from the others in the ER.
When the officer reached for his handcuffs, Flick ran. The officer chased Flick and deployed his Taser. Flick fell to the ground and the officer moved forward to handcuff him. A struggle ensued and the officer dropped his Taser. Flick attempted to grab the Taser.
A bystander ran to the officer’s aid and with the help of the individual, the officer was able to regain control of the Taser and use it on Flick a second time. At this point Flick stopped fighting and put his hands behind his back as instructed.
Because of the struggle, the officer escorted Flick back into the Parkway ER where he was evaluated by the medical staff.
Due to concerns over a possible head injury, the attending physician directed that Flick be transported to Huntsville Hospital for observation where he remains.
Following his release, Flick will be transported to the Decatur City Jail and held on the charges of Giving a False Name to a Law Enforcement and Resisting Arrest. Once these misdemeanor charges are resolved, he will be released into the custody of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.
In the course of seeking medical treatment for Flick, the officer lost track of the individual who came to his aid during his struggle to take Flick into custody.
The Decatur Police Department would like to thank this person for his assistance and recognize him for the service he provided. We ask that he, or anyone who knows who he is, call the Decatur Police Department at 256-341-4647.”
