Hollis Dean Jarnigan – Obituary

Hollis Dean Jarnigan, age 92, of Cherokee, died Monday, April 20, 2015. His family will receive friends Wednesday, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Harris Chapel Baptist Church with funeral service following in the church sanctuary. Jeff Davis, Jack Bailey and Chuck Bradford will officiate and burial will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Jarnigan was a Colbert County native and a member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church. He served in the South Pacific with the 43rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 320.

Hollis, better known as “Paw Paw”, was a loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather. His big smile was infectious as was his passion for Alabama football and Braves baseball. He was a good and faithful servant of the Lord, his family and friends, and our country.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Stella Kathryn Ables Jarnigan; his parents, Roscoe and Ora Jarnigan; his brother, Ray Jarnigan and his sister, Earsel Jarnigan.

He is survived by his sisters, Ella Mae Malone and Barbara Joy Ford; sons, Larry Jarnigan and wife, Charlotte, Benny Jarnigan, Barry Jarnigan and wife, Renee; grandchildren, Chris, Dan, Amelia and Anna Grace Jarnigan and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Jarnigan, Dan Jarnigan, Paul Malone, David Malone, Roger Lard, Curtis Wallace, Larry Pounders and Josh Goins.

The Jarnigan family expresses special thanks to the staff of Cypress Cove Nursing Home and Alacare Hospice.
