Robert Norman Martin – Obituary

January 25, 2015, Robert Norman Martin passed from his earthly home to his eternal home in the presence of his loving family. His many friends and loving family are saddened by the loss of this fine father, husband, grandfather, great- grandfather, and step grandfather.

Bob was born to Jim and Effie Martin in Huntsville, Alabama on January 3, 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Peggy Shaffer Martin; his brother, Harold James Martin; his grandson, Robert David Mays; and his sister, Louise Martin Carroll. He is survived by his wife, Judy Denton Martin; his daughter, Lois (Bill) Mays; his sons, Alan (Terri) Martin; Tim (Beth) Martin; Phillip (Diane) Martin; and “special” son, Dennis (Melissa) Folks; grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Gerhardt; Joshua Martin; Bethany (Ben) Bowden; Timmy (Sara)Martin; Tabitha Martin; Bryan Martin; Daniel Martin, April (Alex) Craig; Brandon (Julian) Folks, and Sara Folks. He also leaves five great grandchildren. He leaves two step children; Dewey (Pam) Mann; Renee Mann; two step-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

Bob graduated from Hazel Green High School and attended St. Petersburg College after moving to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1952 with the family construction business. He later worked for the St. Petersburg Fire Department for 23 years where he was selected as the “1979 Fireman of the Year” for excellence in service to the people of St. Petersburg, Florida”. After his retirement from the fire department he worked with the Pinellas Park Church of Christ as their minister for fourteen years.

In 1997, Bob became reacquainted with Judy Denton and they were married in 1998. After their wedding, Bob retired from the ministry and he and Judy moved to the family farm in Alabama and Bob became involved in church work at the Meridianville Church of Christ—teaching and preaching as needed. In addition to his church work, Bob also spent time with his hobbies – golf, travelling, and Alabama football.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rainbow Omega (a home for adults with handicaps) at P.O. Box 740 Eastaboga, AL 30260 or to Alacare Hospice at 2404 Commerce Ct. SW, Huntsville, Al 35801-5679.

Visitation will take place at the Mayfair Church of Christ on Carl T. Jones Drive @ 11 a. m. Wednesday with the funeral to follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery.­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family
