Suzanne Smith Plaisted passed away on January 12, 2015 in Huntsville, Alabama after a long struggle with lung disease. She was 77. Mrs. Plaisted was born on March 2, 1937 in Birmingham, Alabama to her parents, Paul and Lula Smith. she graduated from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a degree in English. Suzanne was a generous and witty person with a passion for literature and the arts. She was very well read on many topics and previously she was the co-owner of “A Good Book Store” located on the Courthouse Square. Suzanne was a nurse and later a secretary in the Well Baby Unit of Huntsville Hospital for nearly 15 years until she retired in 2006. She was a spiritual person and followed both Christian and Buddhist teachings. She also worked and volunteered at various social services in the North Alabama Area. Suzanne was instrumental in founding the YES Clinic (Youth Emergency Service). Suzanne is survived by her devoted husband, Norman Plaisted; sister Sally (Jim) Booth of Rockville, Maryland, her sons Eric (Patricia) Jackson, Steve (Beth) Jackson, Mark (Kelli) Jackson and David (Carol) Jackson and two grandchildren, Janie and Miller Jackson, all of Huntsville, Alabama. Visitation will be on Thursday January 22nd from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Berryhill Funeral Home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Suzanne’s life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to 305 8th Street, The American Lung Association, Central Volunteer Fire Department or Alzheimer’s Association (Mid South Chapter). Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
