Two Arrested On Drug Charges

drugs 1DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit has been conducting a narcotics investigation involving two individuals.  Here is how they describe events leading up to arrests:

“During the past several months, members of the Decatur Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit conducted a narcotics investigation that involved a male identified as Melvin McDaniel Jr. McDaniel distributed a quantity of crack cocaine on one occasion inside the city limits of Decatur. Investigators later obtained a warrant for Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance.

Investigators also conducted an investigation of McDaniel selling large quantities of cocaine from his residence located at 3901 Boxwood Lane Southwest Decatur, Al. Organized Crime Unit investigators were able to obtain a narcotics search warrant for the residence.

On November 12, 2014, prior to executing the search warrant for the residence, drugs 2investigators observed a vehicle leave the residence. Investigators in the area observed the driver was not wearing a seat belt. Members of the Anti-Crime Unit initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Highway 31S and Pool Valley Road. After further investigation, officers identified the driver as Wendell Thompson. Thompson was later found to be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine.

While the traffic stop was being conducted, memebers of the Special Operations Division executed the search warrant on McDaniel’s residence. During the search, investigators located quantities of crack cocaine, ecstasy pills, and marijuana throughout the residence. Drug sale paraphernalia was also located inside the residence.

McDaniel was placed under arrest for one count of Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. McDaniel was transported to the Decatur City Jail where he was booked and held. McDaniel was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $11,000.00 bond.

Thompson was placed under arrest for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, No Seat Belt, and Driving While Revoked. Thompson was transported to the Decatur City Jail where he was booked and held. Thompson was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $3,500.00 bond.”
