Donald J. Funk, 70, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday. Don was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Martha to whom he was happily married for forty-eight years, his daughter Jenniffer and two grandchildren.
Don was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and was raised by his loving grandparents where he discovered he had a talent and passion for working with machines, numbers and problem solving.
He attended Indiana University on a ROTC scholarship where he earned an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Physics before attending the University of Texas (El Paso) where he earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to work as an engineer for the U.S. Military and later pursued a successful career at Raytheon where he was employed for over 20 years.
In his spare time Don enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, working on his cars, gourmet cooking, and caring for his elite show dogs. But most of all, Don — or Poppa Don as his grandchildren called him —was good man who loved his family and tried to make the world a better place. He will be missed very much.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 at the funeral home.
In lieu of gifts or flowers donations can be made to your local Humane
Society in his name.
