Committing Burglary While Intoxicated…..Not A Good Idea

DECATUR-On Monday, August 11th the Decatur Police responded to a burglary call on Somerville Road andhere is how they describe events leading to the arrest of one suspect:

SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:

“On August 11, 2014, at approximately 1526 hours, Decatur Police responded to a Burglary in Progress in the 1200 block of Somerville Road SE. The homeowner reported that they came home to find an unknown white male inside of the residence. The home owner gave a physical description of the suspect.

The white male suspect fled the scene on foot. After he fled the scene, it was discovered that the suspect had left property behind. The property was determined to be stolen property from a burglary that was reported in the 1200 block of 8th Ave. SE this same date.

The Decatur Police Anti-Crime Unit was in the area, and they located a white male matching the given physical description. The white male was identified as Derrick Andrew Mills. Mills appeared to be intoxicated and was subsequently arrested for Public Intoxication. Mills was also found to be in possession of additional stolen property from the 8th Ave. SE burglary.

In addition to Public Intoxication, Derrick Andrew Mills was charged with two counts of Burglary in the Third Degree. Mills was booked and processed at the Decatur City Jail. After satisfying a $500.00 bond at the Decatur City Jail, Mills was transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $10,000.00 cash bond.”
