DECATUR-A 911 call was received by Morgan County E911 Center. The Target store in Decatur was being robbed. The Decatur Police Department responded to the call and here is how they described events leading up to the arrest of one woman:
SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
“On August 2nd, 2014 at approximately 3:00 pm the Morgan County E911 Center received a call of a robbery at Target. Officers with the Decatur Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the call and located 31 year old Mary McCormick in the custody of Loss Prevention.
Detective Burleson with the Decatur Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit was called to the scene to conduct an investigation into the alleged robbery. During the course of the investigation it was determined that McCormick, who is a resident of Athens, had come to Target and stolen
numerous items from the business.
As McCormick left the store a member of Target’s Loss Prevention Team approached McCormick and attempted to apprehend her. During the apprehension a physical altercation ensued during which McCormick continually attempted to flee with the merchandise. McCormick was eventually taken into custody. She was transported to the Decatur Police Department for questioning and subsequently charged with Robbery in the 3rd Degree.
At the time of her arrest McCormick was in possession of several items consistent with the use of methamphetamine. She was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of $3,000.00 bond.”
