Otto Cyril Benischek, 72, of Hanceville, peacefully joined the Lord in Eternity on Tuesday morning, July 8th, 2014, at the Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Otto was born to Otto and Ester Ruchotscke Benischek in rural Oxford Junction on June 5, 1942. Growing up on the family farm, Otto attended Iowa State University and pursued a long career in insurance, which concluded as the marketing director for Alabama Benefits Inc. of Huntsville. As an Auburn fan, Otto was a champion for the underdog and enjoyed playing softball and watching anything having to do with race cars, but most of all loved being with family and friends. He spent countless hours in the community and frequented local eateries where he would befriend all that would return a smile. Otto was proud of his family and would tell you about each of them if you had the time and returned the smile. His family, friends, and professional peers sought his knowledge and wisdom out and knew what he said was sound. Otto was a member of Saint Ann’s Annunciation of the Lord in Decatur, was an Elks Officer, and served as a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Otto was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, Gerald. His memory is honored by his fiancee’, Debra Young, and three children, Victoria Williams (Todd), Matthew Benischek (Alice) and Nathaniel Benischek (Sarah) and grandchildren, Matthew J. Benischek, Jessica Benischek, Desynie Henry, Morgan Williams, Ashtyn Williams, Hannah Benischek, Levi Benischek and Aurora Young.

Funeral services will be held today, July 10th at 6 p.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home with an additional service in Oxford Junction Iowa at Laheys Funeral Home on July 14th at 10 a.m. Burial will be in May-flower Cemetery, Oxford Junction Iowa. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. – See more at: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/decaturdaily/obituary.aspx?n=otto-cyril-benischek&pid=171671562&fhid=23817#sthash.1cjFPSD5.dpuf
