Liesa Amanda Rademacher Folgmann – Obituary

leisaLiesa Amanda Rademacher Folgmann was born May 10, 1923 to parents Otto and Frieda Rademacher in Hanstedt, Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, Helmut Georg Folgmann and her parents.

She is survived by her son, Martin Folgmann; daughter, Claudia Noehren; their spouses, Shannon and Detlev; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. Folgmann was one of eight children raised in a small farm community in northern Germany called Schierhorn. During WW II she was a nurse for the Red Cross and was stationed in southern Italy. Upon her return home she met her future husband Helmut. They were married December 10, 1948. After having their children in Germany the Folgmann family immigrated to the United States in April of 1967.

Her exceptional cooking skills learned in Germany and her passion for entertaining introduced her to many within Huntsville’s community. In 1974 she began working on Redstone Arsenal for the German Lutheran Church helping to create the Soldatenstube, a restaurant and social gathering place for visiting military tied to the Patriot program. There she continued to touch many through her culinary expertise and made foreign and local soldiers feel at home. She retired in May 1992. Liesa continued to entertain the local German/ American community at her home with grand parties featuring her delicious buffets for which she became known in Huntsville and beyond.
