Rodeo Week is here in Limestone County!

clown and kidATHENS-There are events all week to give you a reason to don your blue jeans, cowboy boots and cowboy hat. These events bring many visitors to our city, and we appreciate the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department for making it a fun time worth yelling “Yee-Haw!” about and luring rodeo lovers to Athens.

Today at 5 p.m. – Preston’s Western Wear on U.S. 72 – Rodeo Kick-off Kids’ Day with horseback rides. Free event!
fashion showTuesday at 6 p.m. – Rodeo Street Dance and Western Fashion Show on The Square – Music by the Jeff Whitlow Country Band with fashion show starting
at 7 p.m.
team roping
Thursday starting at 9 a.m. and going  most of day – Slack at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena – $5. It’s like the rodeo without the pageantry. See competitors in team roping. Area elementary schools will reward their Leader in cowMe and Reading Initiative participants by allowing these students to attend.
Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – The Exceptional Rodeo at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena – This is for those who have pre-registered but if you want to volunteer, call Dawn Blakely at 256-233-8710. This allows special needs children and adults to enjoy the rodeo through hay rides, horseback rides, face painting, roping, etc.horse
Friday and Saturday – The 32nd annual Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena – Gates open at 6 p.m. with the opening ceremony at 8 p.m. Miss Limestone Rodeo and the winner of the saddle give-away will be announced at the Saturday performance. There will be specialty acts, and bareback bronc riding, calf roping, break-away roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, kids calf scramble, cowgirl’s barrel racing, chuck wagon races and bull riding. Advance tickets (by May 15) are $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and younger. Get ms limestonethese tickets at the Sheriff’s Office, Jiffy No. 1 and 2, West End, Adams Western Wear in Ardmore, Railroad Bazaar, Preston’s Western Wear, True Discount in Ardmore and Warren’s BP in Rogersville. Tickets at the gate are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger.
Saturday at noon – Rodeo Queen Pageant Luncheon at Central Church of Christ’s family life center at U.S. 31 and Alabama 251 – $20; catered by Curry’s of Decatur. Call 256-216-5029 to reserve a ticket. Mus purchase ticket in advance.
