Day Fest.  “Some people who live here tend to take it for granted, but all you have to do is step outside to see how fortunate we are and how important it is for us to protect our natural resources.”

This year’s Shoals Earth Day Fest 2014 is 10am-5pm, Saturday, April 5, at Sheffield City Hall, 600 N. Montgomery Avenue.  The stars at the April festival are the Earth and the environment.

1“At the festival, we stress the importance of being good stewards of the environment and how to enjoy our natural areas,” Muse said.  This year’s festival will feature numerous eco-friendly displays, children’s activities, arts and crafts and live music.  Tour of Helen Keller Library’s solar panel system in Tuscumbia will be available.  Numerous businesses, organizations, and government agencies will also participate in the festival.

Featured entertainers include eco entertainer, illusionist and comedian Steve Trash.  According to Muse, “Steve is a great entertainer with a powerful message.”buy fresh

Jack O Lantern Farm will be displaying and selling its naturally grown produce.  “At the festival, we stress the importance of knowing where your food comes from and whenever possible buy local and organically grown products,” Muse said.  Local non-profit organizations will be selling their “junk and treasures” at the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Rummage Sale during the festival.

Susann Hamlin, executive director of Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau, said the festival is an excellent way to learn about our environment.  “I always learn so much every year when I go,” she said.  “Whether about solar energy or new ways of planting and composting, I am always surprised at the ways we can spend less and save more.”

Muse and her festival committee always have something for all ages.  There is information about organic landing 2gardening, recycling, bird and wildlife watching, energy conservation and much, much more.  The group works hard to make sure that everyone who attends the festival leaves with a greater appreciation for the environment.
