Graveside service for John Sims Crutcher III, 76, of Athens, will be today, March 11, 2014, at noon at Athens City Cemetery with Penne Jones Laubenthal officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Crutcher was born January 4, 1938, in Huntsville to Dr. John Sims Crutcher Jr. and Frances “Bunny” Matthews Crutcher. He attended Sewanee Military Academy and Howard College. After a brief career in pharmacy, he pursued a career in real estate. He served in the Alabama National Guard as well as National Guard Reserve. He was a member of the Progress and Rotary clubs of Athens as well as many regional and national historical societies reflecting his deep interest in history.
Mr. Crutcher was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Sue Smith Crutcher.
He is survived by his children, Nancy Kelly Crutcher of Athens, John Sims Crutcher IV of New York; stepson, Helan McIntyre of California; and by grandchildren, John Winston Garth and Frances Malone Garth.
