James H. Varner 90, of Huntsville, Al passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014. Mr. Varner was born on March 10, 1923 in Ty Ty, Georgia. He is a 20 year United States Army veteran and was the owner of Auto Center Upholstery for over 40 years. During his retirement years, Mr. Varner immensely enjoyed gardening, volunteering for his church and community, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and life in general. Mr. Varner was a wonderful husband and father and had friends from all walks of life. He was greatly loved and respected and will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of children Maxine Varner, parents Kirby Newton Varner and Annie Belle Porter, sister Susie M. Wilder, and brothers Matthew, Haywood, Reuben, Roy, and Kirby.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Varner, children: James Varner Jr., Lois Lindsey, Richard Varner, Margaret Smallwood, Harold Varner, Charles Varner, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Varner will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville. Services will be on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 11:00am at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to the Alzheimer Association or The Susan G. Komen Foundation.
