Emory O. Thompson, Jr., 63, a Deacon at Union Grove Family Worship Center in Mooreville and a retired 26-year Veteran who formerly served in Amberg, Germany, during The Vietnam War and stateside with the 155th Armored Brigade of the Mississippi Army National Guard, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 21, 2013. He was born September 3, 1950, to the late Orville and Faye Turner Thompson. He was the owner/operator of Thompson A/C & Appliance Repair, which he ran for 16 years. Prior to that, he worked at Vend-Foods for 20 years. He was also a veteran of the Gulf War.
Services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday, November 24, at the Union Grove Family Worship Center with Pastor Ryan Napalo and the Rev. Wayne Thorn officiating. Burial will be in the Union Grove Cemetery with military honors. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Sybil Funderburk Thompson; his daughter, Donja Bland (Terry) of Senatobia; his son, Jay Thompson (Suzanne) of Monticello; three grandsons, Casey Thompson (fiancé Mary Kathryn Callender), Evan Thompson, and Aaron Thompson, all of Monticello; three brothers, John Thompson, Jerry Thompson, and Jeff Thompson, all of Shiloh; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Funderburk, Brian Thompson, Tracy Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Casey Thompson, and Evan Thompson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. Saturday at the church.
