Jimmie Helen Grissom Gilbert, 81, died Sunday, November 10, 2013, at the Spain Wallace Center at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. She was born December 12, 1931, to Oliver and Verlie Wiginton Grissom. She was the ninth of 10 children born and raised in Mantachie. She moved to California in 1956 and then onto Anchorage, Alaska, for 15 years. In 1991, she moved to Birmingham, Ala. to open and operate Rolling in Dough Pie Shop. In 1997, she worked at Miss Myra’s BBQ until her retirement two years ago.

Services will be 2 p. m. Tuesday, November 12, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with the Rev. Dorothy Wigginton Hough officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

She is survived by four sisters, Mildred Tucker of Mantachie, Faye Cross of Tucson, Ariz., Lora McCabe of Rocklin, Calif. and Myra Harper (Karl) of Birmingham, Ala.; one special niece, Rennae Wheat of Birmingham, Ala.; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Gilbert; two sons, Mike and Phil Cherry; two sisters, Freda Dickerson and Bennie Spradling; and three brothers, Lawrence, Bruce and Oliver Wendell Grissom.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 11, at the funeral home in Mantachie.
