Graveside service for Leroy Vernon Shirah Jr., age 57, of Decatur, will be Thursday, August 22, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Jackie Kay officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Shirah, who died Monday, August 19, 2013, at Parkway Medical Center, was born July 30, 1956, in Spartanburg, S.C., to Leroy Vernon Shirah Sr. and Shirley Dillard Shirah. He was preceded in death by his father, and one nephew, Lee Easter. Mr. Shirah was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served as an anti-warfare specialist on the U.S.S. America.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Lori Demerco Shirah; his mother, Shirley Shirah of Decatur; three brothers, Lonnie Shirah (Penny) of Decatur, Russell Shirah (Jona) of Decatur and David Shirah (Linda) of Spartanburg, S.C.; one sister, Phyllis Husky of Greenville, S.C.; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
