The below obituary has been lovingly prepared by Neita’s family.
Neita Faye Singleton Cooper, age 75, passed away on November 1, 2026. Neita was born on April 24, 1951, in Cullman County, Alabama, to James and Imogene Osborn Singleton. In 1954, her family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where she attended Lewisburg Junior High School and formed friendships that would last a lifetime. Neita devoted much of her life to her family. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She spent her early years raising her three daughters and helping care for her nieces and nephews. She later worked for approximately 30 years as a switchboard operator at several Birmingham-area hospitals, including Carraway, Cooper Green, UAB, and Norwood Clinic. She also worked at Fultondale Chevron, where her outgoing personality turned many regular customers into friends. Neita enjoyed spending time with family and friends, working puzzles, playing cards, gardening, and sharing her love of cooking. She was known for her delicious chili and spaghetti, her love of butterflies, the color red, and her lifelong admiration for the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. Above all, Neita treasured her family. She was a source of strength, comfort, and advice to her children and grandchildren and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to the many friends of her children and grandchildren who came to know her as a second mother or Mawmaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Imogene Osborn Singleton; her maternal grandparents, John Ed and Maggie Mae Osborn; her brother, Rayburn “Ray” Osborn, Sr., and his wife, Marilyn Osborn; her brother-in-law, Garry Allen; and her grandsons, Joshua Yarbrough and Scott Yarbrough. She is survived by her three daughters, Angela Yarbrough, Barbara Cooper, and Chrissy Kendrick; her sisters, Helen Allen and Cindy Clark (Chris); and her grandchildren, Meagan Yarbrough, Laura Yarbrough Gray (Kel), Brianna Cooper, Cassidy Cooper Moman (Justin), Alyssa Kendrick Yarborough (Christian), Walker Kendrick, and Trey Kendrick. Her thirteen great-grandchildren are Savannah and Olivia Yarbrough; Parker Story; Annabell and Skadi Gray; Nevaeh Carlton; Jaxon, Jillian, Chase, and Charlotte Moman; Oaklee Thomas; and Everett and Della Rae Yarborough. She is also survived by Taylor Darnell, mother of Joshua’s children and a cherished member of the family, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who loved her deeply. Neita’s legacy lives on through the generations of family she helped raise, the memories she created, and the love she shared so freely. Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2026 from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 p.m. at Moulton Heritage Funeral Home, where the service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Shiloh Cemetery, Danville.
