Myrtle Irene Daly Myrtle Irene Nichols Daly, age 97, passed away peacefully on October 4th, surrounded by her children and the love of her family. She was born on April 25, 1929, in Thatch, Alabama, to Chester Leonard Nichols and Wealtha Elizabeth Karn Nichols.

Myrtle is survived by her children, Janie Hughes; John Lynn Daly and wife, Becky; and Susan Voiers and son-in-law, Gary Burgett; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Nichols; and sister, Nell Barnett.

She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Marilyn Burgett; her two grandsons, Richard Dax Robinson and Trey Voiers; her parents; and four siblings.

Myrtle lived a life filled with curiosity, learning, adventure, and love. She loved to travel, always eager to experience new places and learn new things. Education was deeply important to her, and her own commitment to learning was reflected in the two master’s degrees she earned.

She dedicated much of her life to education, working as a teacher and librarian. After 25 years with the Morgan County school system, she retired—but retirement did not keep Myrtle away from the classroom for long. She continued substitute teaching, primarily in Huntsville, for another 10 years.

Myrtle had an inquisitive mind and a genuine interest in the world around her. Her warmth and willingness to connect with others were among the qualities that made her so special.

But perhaps her greatest accomplishment—and certainly her greatest legacy—is the family she leaves behind.

The love she gave, the sacrifices she made, the wisdom she shared, and the lessons she taught will continue to live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Through them, a part of Myrtle will continue to touch generations she may never have the opportunity to meet.
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.”

Rest peacefully, Myrtle. You will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.

Visitation will be at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026 from 5pm-8pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 8th, 2026 at 2pm with Russ Daly officiating. Burial will follow at Germantown Cemetery.
