Renate Bridges, 90, was born to Wilhelm and Elfriede (nee Meister) Skottke in Lubbock, Germany on February 15, 1936. Her life was formed by WWII and its aftermath. Although she was living in Henderson, Kentucky when she passed, she considered Scottsboro her home.
She was preceded in death by Bob Bridges, her husband of 51 years. They met and married in Lubeck, where he was stationed as a translator. She is survived by her children, Tina Parker (Preston) and Brent Bridges (Jennifer), grandchildren Emily Keith (Stewart), John Parker (Susie), Wesley Jackson, Kamryn Bridges, and Elle Bridges as well as her great- grandchildren, Lucy and Jamie Parker.
At the very first available opportunity, Renate became an American citizen in April of 1968. She wore the red, white, and blue proudly, even when she had helpful suggestions on the efficiency of the government or some of its leaders.
Her backyard landscaping was legendary. She could not resist a new flower or an old favorite rose. A member of the Broad Street Church of Christ for many years, she taught classes to women and children. Her hospitality, charm, and love of laughter will be remembered by many.
Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 at Scottsboro Funeral Home on Saturday, October 10, 2026. A private graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
