Myra Mills Townsley, 86, of Florence, passed away at home on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Myra and her husband Rod were the previous owners of Townsley’s General Merchandise for 31 years. She was a member of Singing River Church of Christ. Myra was affectionately known as “Nana” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Myra was a collector of antiques; she loved embroidering quilts and loved all things from “Gone with the Wind.”
Visitation will be on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 12-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at Tri- Cities Memorial Garden immediately following the visitation with Frank Richey officiating..
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Rod Townsley; son, Wade Townsley; parents, Jim and Rae “Tootie” Mills.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Chandler (Anthony) Florence, Al; daughter-in-law, Freda Townsley; sister, Jo Irons, Florence, Al; brother, Bo Mills (Gail), Florence, Al; grandchildren, Abbie Murray (Joseph) Florence, AL, Denton Chandler (Brett Ann) Florence, AL, Katie Hurley (Dustin), Buford, GA; great-grandchildren, Mady, Savannah and Emma Hurley, Buford, GA; Everett and Chandler Murray, Florence, AL.
Pallbearers will be Denton Chandler, Joseph Murray, Scott Irons, Michael Ryan, Craig Borden, and Wiley Coats.
Honorary pallbearers are Bo Mills, Tommy Olive, Joel Summers, Donald Olive and Jeremiah Crapps.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude children’s research.
Special thanks to Dr. Danny McFall for his care and compassion, Gentiva Hospice and all the wonderful sitters that have helped take care of mom for the past year.
