Linda Holmes Sullins, 83, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 17, 1942, Linda lived a life defined by dedication to her family, her career, and her community.
For many years, Linda worked as an administrative assistant at Teledyne Brown Engineering. Following her retirement there, she brought her talents to her son’s practice, serving as the office manager for Sullins Eye Care Center from 1992 to 2016.
Beyond her professional life, Linda was radiant and spirited; she brought an unforgettable spark to everything she did. She was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader, never missing an opportunity to support them in their various activities. She stayed active playing pickleball, attending Zumba classes, and soaking up the Florida sunshine she loved so much. A member of several bridge clubs, she cherished the game nights, travel adventures, and dinner socials shared with her close friends. Linda also had a deep passion for community service, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, the St. Paul United Methodist Food Pantry, Trinity United Methodist Church, and numerous other local organizations. Her family and friends will forever cherish her loving, generous spirit.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Samuel Luttrell Sullins III; her son, Dr. Steven Luttrell Sullins; and her daughters, Stephanie Lynn Gentle and Suzanne Lusk Sullins. She also leaves behind three beloved grandchildren, Heath Edward Gentle, Zackary Wade Walling, and Ella Suzanne Sullins, and her husband, Josh Duncan; her sister, Joan Holmes Johnson; eight nieces; and a large, loving circle of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Lusk Holmes and John Arthur Holmes, Sr., and her brother, John Arthur Holmes, Jr.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Hospice of North Alabama for their kind and compassionate care.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at Trinity United Methodist Church on Monday, August 31 at 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery.
