Simon Robert Carter, 65, passed away on August 22, 2026. Born August 13, 1961, Simon’s life was marked by the steady warmth of a beloved presence and the quiet strength of a generous spirit—one that was deeply cherished by family, friends, and the community he served.
Simon was born in the Butchers Arms Pub in Laneham, Nottinghamshire, England, and was christened in October 1961 at Laneham Church. He attended Green Haven Junior School and Royal Wolverhampton School, where he completed A Levels, laying the foundation for a life shaped by diligence and care for others.
Simon began his working life as a manager at the Station Hotel in Dudley before moving into the financial sector, working for companies including Standard Life and Halifax Building Society. In 2008, he moved to the United States, where he took a job in a café and discovered a deepening love for the service industry. That commitment to welcoming others and giving of himself grew into a lasting calling, and in 2018 he embraced entrepreneurship by opening Union Jack Café, serving what many came to know as the best British fare in the South. Through his work, Simon offered more than meals—he offered hospitality, constancy, and a place where people felt seen and valued.
Simon’s favorite past time was enjoying his family and serving the Etowah County Community, a reflection of the life he chose again and again: one centered on those he loved and the people around him.
Simon leaves behind his loving wife, Page Carter; sons, Cameron Carter (Sara Miller) and Jamie Dodd (Annie); five granddaughters, Emmie, Macey, Elsie, Essie, and Lettie; his brother, Tim Carter (Lindsay); and his nephews, Jensen and Mason Carter.
