Larry Leonard Long Larry Leonard Long was born September 10, 1951, to Willard and Florence Long and passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at UAB.

Larry was a son, brother, father, Christian and friend. Very few places could he go that he didn’t either know someone or be known to others and his name yelled out in happy greeting. Larry worked at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant for over 30 years in Fire Protection and was blessed to be a part of the Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the Christians who meet at Oakland Church of Christ. Larry was the father of two children but was also blessed to have so many kids that would come to his door and ask him to play softball, mud volleyball, or be a part of fire department training on any given Saturday. Larry spent 47 years married to the love of his life, Rebecca Lawrence Long. She took a large part of his heart with her when she passed away. Larry spent endless days playing and spoiling his three granddaughters who affectionately called him G-daddy. Larry attended every football game his girls would march in when he was able and always looked for ways to be a light in this dark world. Larry leaves behind one daughter, Farrah Nicole Long (Chris Mankin); three granddaughters: Lauren Simpson (Preston Ikard), Danielle Mullis (Jay Mullis), and Lena Simpson (Hayden Robertson). He is also survived by his three nieces whom he thought of as daughters as well: Laura Peek Stanford (Daron Stanford), Traci Peek Daniel (Brian Daniel), and Kim Peek Craig. He is survived by one sister, Nancy Ann Long Peek (Kenneth Peek “Skinny”), and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends that he counted as close family, and brothers and sisters as well. Larry always responded with, “I’m blessed”, when asked how he was. So, we pray he finds himself blessed and at peace with our Lord. May we all be a brother and friend like him.
The Funeral service will be Monday, August 24, 2026, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be Monday, from 9:00 to 10:45, at the chapel. Burial will be at Lentzville Cemetery.
