Funeral Services for Mrs. Sara Prickett Hammond, age 80 of Ashland, will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Steve Prickett officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Hammond passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026 at the Clay County Nursing Home. She was born in Clay County, lived most of her life in Tallapoosa County, but has been a resident of Clay County for the past 25 years. She worked as a seamstress for Russell Mills and for Wellborn Cabinets before becoming disabled. Mrs. Hammond was also a Breast Cancer survivor.
Mrs. Hammond is survived by three daughters: Tammy Gortney (Vic), Terri Brown (Danny) and Pamela Harris; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Rubin and Hattie McCain Prickett; her husband, James “Bill” Hammond; her granddaughter, Brook Nolen Baker; and 8 brothers and sisters: Ruby Maples, Frances Berry, Johnnie Prickett, Jakie Prickett, James Prickett, Paula Fielding, Annie Williams, and Genelle Hardin.
Active Pallbearers will be Ethan Gortney, Mason Gortney, Ronald Williams, Marty Williams, Ellis Williams and James Brown.
Her visitation will take place on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville beginning at 9:30 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
