James Andrew "Andy" McGuffey's obituary picture James Andrew “Andy” McGuffey, beloved son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather, died at home in Anniston, Alabama on Monday, August 17, 2026. Andy was born on July 22, 1963 to Eddie Jack and Patricia Delores Smith McGuffey, the youngest of their four children.

Andy grew up in the wilds of Reeds Mill of the Webster’s Chapel Community, where he once leashed an opossum in an attempt to make it the mascot of the Oak Grove Baptist Church Volleyball team, a community where he remains the only contestant ever disqualified from a Womanless Beauty Pageant for lascivious indecent exposure. Andy was a lover of music of all genres, who taught himself to play guitar and a host of other stringed instruments. He had a beautiful and true singing voice that he loved to lift up in praise of Jesus Christ, Sir Elton John, Jimmy Buffett and many others.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents Jack & Patti, a brother Perry Scott, his McGuffey and Smith grandparents, his father-in-law Gerald Hamilton, and a host of aunts and uncles. He is survived by his daughter Brenna Lynne McGuffey Chambless (Jimmy) of Loxley, Alabama and her mother Lynne Hamilton McGuffey of Eulaton, mother-in-law Brenda Hamilton, also of Eulaton, grandsons Luke & Sean and granddaughter Zoe of Loxley, Alabama, step-children Kaytlin and Alex Connell, formerly of Robertsdale, sisters Jackie McGuffey Key (Bryan) of Anniston, Gwen McGuffey Rollins (Mike) of Wedowee and Jacksonville, Tidwell step-sisters Susan, Melissa, and Beth, formerly of Webster’s Chapel, brother-in-spirit Jerry “Frog” Broadwell of Anniston, special friends Bobby and Michelle Bragg of Anniston, several cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, church family of Blue Mountain Baptist, and his dachshund Baby Girl.

The family will receive visitors at Blue Mountain Baptist Church in Anniston at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 21st, with the service beginning at 1 p.m. A private burial will take place at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Wellington at a later date.
