Bryan Gail Baker, 92, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026.
Born on January 9, 1934, to the Jennings Bryan Baker and Ethel Thomason Baker, Bryan spent his life defined by devotion to his family, his fatih, and his service to his country.
A proud veteran, Bryan served in the United States Army as an SP4 E4 Electronics Technician. During the peak of the Cold War, he was deployed to Thule, Greenland, where he helped install and maintain the nation’s first Nike Hercules AN/FPS-50 Detection Radars, providing crucial early detection defense capabilities. Following the Army his military service, he continued his work as a civilian electronics technician for the Army Metrology and Calibration Center, specializing in radar technology and Nike Hercules Command and Control Systems. In 1971, his department consolidated into the Redstone Arsensal Support Activity (RASA), where Bryan transitioned into a career as a contract specialist and manager until his well-earned retirement. During his retirement, Bryan enjoyed being a devoted husband, dad, and granddad.
Bryan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Juanita Copeland Baker.
He leaves behind a rich legacy through his family. He is survived by his two children, Lynn (Kim-Anne) Baker and Sheryl (Mark) McMeen; five grandchildren, Christopher (Kara Million) Baker, Katie (Chris) Moore, Betsy (Dave) Depatie, Bryan (Chelsea) McMeen, and Michael (Elizabeth) McMeen; and nine cherished great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for the family will be held at Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery on Ashbury Road in Albertville, AL on Wednesday, August 12th at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Matt Patrick officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request the memorial gifts be made in Bryan’s memory to Asbury Methodist Church; 3177 Asbury Church Rd.; Albertville, AL 35951 and designated for the cemetery fund.
