The family of Marjorie Jane Sorrell Cottingham (Margie) of Madison, Alabama is saddened to announce her passing on Monday, August 4, 2026 at the age of 83.
Margie was born October 4, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama. Margie was a graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham. She worked at Pollock Paper Company for several years where she met her future husband. Margie also served for 25 years as the school secretary at McAdory High School in McCalla, Alabama from which she retired.
Margie enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends at their beach house and laughing and playing cards until the wee hours of the morning. She also enjoyed watching court shows on television like no one else.
Margie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Jerry Cottingham; son, Jason (Melinda) Cottingham; grandchildren: Maddie and Gracie Cottingham; brothers, Bobby Sorrell and Ray Edwards; as well as other relatives and friends.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents: Virginia Edwards and George Robert Sorrell; brother, George Sorrell.
A small private family service will be held at Legacy Chapel Funeral Home in Madison on August 5th.
