Robert George Fenton Robert George Fenton, age 90, of Athens, AL, passed away at home on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Robert was born on December 26, 1935, in Burdett, NY, the son of Howard Fenton and Carolyn (Dudgeon) Fenton.

Robert graduated from Watkins Glen High School in Watkins Glen, NY, and then from Cornell University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He entered the U.S. Army in 1958 and eventually transferred to the Reserve at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL, where he began his career as an Aerospace Engineer for NASA. After “first retirement” he continued working for several more years as a Government contractor at Pace and Waite (now COLSA).

He married Virginia Atkins in 1963. He was a lifelong Methodist and was a faithful member of Isom’s Chapel Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School regularly until his death. He enjoyed playing guitar over the years, and appreciated classic hymns and country-western music, especially Marty Robbins. His unwavering sense of duty and patriotism was always evident. Fiercely independent, he was always most content when working outdoors.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Amy (Fenton) McEniry (Michael), and several cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, and his parents Howard Fenton and Carolyn (Dudgeon) Fenton.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 6, 2026, 10:00 am, at the Isom’s Chapel cemetery with Pastor Mike Banks and Bro. Bill Stone officiating. No visitation is planned.
