It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wanda Patricia “Pat” Underwood, who peacefully entered her eternal home on July 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue to live on through the family she cherished so deeply.
Born in Colbert County, Alabama, Pat embraced life with a loving spirit and an unwavering dedication to her family. She touched countless lives with her kindness, warmth, and genuine compassion, leaving an unforgettable impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Pat was the beloved daughter of the late Callie Irene Riner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ron Underwood; her brothers-in-law, Van Duboise, Steve Williams, Gene Nolan, and J.C. Hand; and her niece, Melinda Lindsey.
She is survived by her only daughter, Wanda Renè McCurry (Ronnie Gaston), who was the pride and joy of her life. To Pat, family was life’s greatest blessing. Nothing brought her more joy than being “Mama,” and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved. Her daughter was the center of her world, and the love they shared was unwavering—a bond that remained strong through every season of life.
She is also survived by her loving sisters, Jean Duboise, Kathy Nolan, Linda Strainer (Greg), Brenda Hand, and Jill Williams.
She leaves behind cherished nieces: Jeanne Maggerise (Bob), Leigha Morgan (Jerrod), Tina Swinney (Ryan), Teresa Ricketts (Mike), Angela Huckaba (Bobby), and Dr. Darlene Lindsey (Amanda); nephews Chris Hand (Melinda) and Joe Lindsey (Beverly); along with many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
Pat dedicated 57 years of her life to the profession she loved as a cosmetologist. She had an extraordinary gift for making women feel beautiful and men look their best, but her greatest talent was making everyone who sat in her chair feel seen, appreciated, and loved. Her salon was more than a workplace—it was a place where friendships were formed, stories were shared, laughter echoed, prayers were offered, and lives were touched. To so many, Pat was not just their hairdresser; she was a trusted friend, a confidante, and a source of encouragement. The relationships she built over nearly six decades stand as a testament to the beautiful life she lived.
A faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church in Russellville, Alabama, Pat lived her faith through acts of kindness, generosity, and encouragement. Her life reflected the love of Christ in the way she cared for others.
Pat’s presence was truly a bright light to her family, friends, and all who knew her. She had an incredible ability to recognize the unique gifts and strengths in others, always offering words of encouragement and making people feel special. Her impeccable taste, sense of fashion, vibrant personality, gracious heart, and beautiful smile will be remembered by all. She was truly one of a kind.
Visitation will be held at Pinkard Funeral Home on July 19, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
