Jo Hazel (Grimes) Dickson was born on August 19, 1933 in Clifton, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Lige Grimes and Mary Jane Brashier Stricklin.
On March 14, 1953, she was united in marriage to Tommy Lewis Dickson, who preceded his wife in death on November 13, 1984.
Jo Hazel grew up and went to school in Clifton. When she got married, she and Tommy moved to Olive Hill to start their family together. Years later, she moved to Savannah where she lived until her passing. Her hobbies included playing board games, cards, and especially dominoes. She enjoyed traveling, both abroad and domestic. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers. She enjoyed hosting friends and family throughout her life. She was very competitive and loved to gamble.
Jo Hazel (Grimes) Dickson departed this life on July 2, 2026 in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 13 days.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Dickson Lackey (Dale) of Melbourne, Florida, Beverly Dickson Jones (Charlie) of Savannah, Tennessee, and Belinda Dickson (Meleah) of Savannah, Tennessee; granddaughters, Monica Dickson Matthews (Donnie) and Caylie Jones Sellers (Max); and great grandchildren, Whitley Lovelace and Wesley Lovelace.
In addition to her husband and parents, Jo Hazel was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Michael Dickson and longtime companion, Jimmy Hardin.
