James Delbert Wyers died at his home in Lacey’s Spring on June 26, 2026. Jim was born on September 16, 1935, to Delbert Wyers and Inez Fuller Wyers in Fort Payne. He published his first novel at the age of 82, Footprints in the Clay, loosely based on his maternal ancestors.
Jim was an avid fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football and the Chicago Cubs. He often boasted that he had been a fan of both since 1945. He enjoyed attending Cubs games with his daughter, Tina Wyers.
After serving in the United States Airforce from 1954- 1957, Jim married Dixie Ann Bynum in 1958. Together, they owned and operated Woodville Dairy Bar in Woodville for 30 years. Jim served as Mayor of Woodville for three years and was briefly a writer for the Daily Sentinel in Scottsboro.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dixie Wyers; daughters Pam Werstler (Tom); Brenda Zaks (Robby); and Tina Wyers (Kacy Parker); sister Mary Gifford; grandchildren Rodney Hasty; Amber Hasty Mills (Matt); and Alora Frank (Danny); great grandchildren Zoe Mills, Skylar Mills and Silas Frank.
Special thanks to his niece Risa Kitchens who drove his sister Mary, from Georgia, to visit him and Dixie through this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. For those wishing to honor his memory, his favorite charity was the Salvation Army.
