Mary Ellen Hammond Coalson, 81, of Somerville, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born on June 25, 1945 in Tennessee to Jessie Porter “Pete” Hammond and Meathyl Reba “Pat” Eley.
Ms. Mary was a Home Health Nurse for Decatur General before retirement. She was a Methodist, a 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo, was a very talented artist in her younger years and enjoyed swimming and thrifting. She loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her parents and sister, Anne Hood.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Tamara; grandchildren, Brooklyn Jones Wheeler and Zachary Kane Jones; and two great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Friday, July 3, 2026 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.
