David Houston Harris, 72, a lifelong resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Mount Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation, 1224 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401.Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born on December 26, 1953, in Columbia, TN, David was the son of the late John Joyce Harris and the late Sara Elizabeth Short Harris. A 1972 graduate of Columbia Central High School, David attended Auburn University, where he majored in architecture and developed a lifelong passion for Auburn Tigers athletics. He worked for many years alongside his parents at John J. Harris Surveying Co. before continuing his career with Everett Campbell Surveying. David was a member of Columbia First Baptist Church.

David will be remembered for his quiet nature, devotion to his family, and his love for Auburn football.

He is survived by his sister, Melinda Harris (Jim) Houston of Inlet Beach, Florida; his nephew, John Andrew (Emily) Houston of Louisville, Kentucky; his niece, Margaret “Meg” Houston (Will) Saxon of Birmingham, Alabama; and six beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.
