Edward Gene Brock, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home on June 28, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends.
Gene was born on November 3, 1936, to the late Dyer and Lela Davis Brock. He was well known throughout Van Buren County for his photography, capturing countless images of the area’s natural beauty, its people, and its history. Gene was a devoted member of the Spencer Church of Christ and faithfully served as the Van Buren County Historian for many years. He was a 1956 graduate of Van Buren High School.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years, Sylvia Gilbert Brock, with whom he is now reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven; his brother, Robert Samuel Brock; and his sister, Josephine (Fred) Drouillard.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Dewayne (Darleen) Brock; his grandson, Oliver Walker; his granddaughter, Desirray Guy; as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Gene Brock will be held on Wednesday July 1, 2026, at 1:00pm in the Layne Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. R.C. Christian and Bro. Chris Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Cummingsville Cemetery. Visitation times are Tuesday June 30, 2026, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and Wednesday July 1, 2026, from 10:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm.
