Melanie FlemingMelanie Kay Fleming, 75 of Arab passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at her home. She was born July 5, 1950, in Athens, Alabama, the daughter of J. C. Legg and Faye Davis Legg Carrington. Melanie brought warmth and joy into the lives of everyone she encountered for nearly 76 years.

Melanie was, in every sense of the word, the life of the party. She had a way of lighting up a room the moment she walked in and she never walked in without looking her absolute best. A fashionable and stylish dresser, she took pride in her appearance and carried herself with a confidence and flair that was uniquely her own. Melanie was a woman of remarkable spirit and an amazing cook whose kitchen was always open. Her passion for cooking was not just about food, but about bringing people together. Whether it was family, friends, or even strangers, Melanie’s culinary delights were a symbol of her generosity and open heart. Her gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and usually song. She was truly the “hostess with the mostest”.

Known for her vibrant and feisty personality, Melanie never met a stranger. Though she wouldn’t hesitate to speak her mind, she had an incredible gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her love for karaoke was legendary, often inspiring spontaneous sing-alongs where she and husband, Don, with his guitar, created lasting memories for all who were lucky enough to share the mic and join in.

Melanie’s life was a testament to the beauty of human connection. She valued her family above all else and cherished every moment spent with them. Her social gatherings were reflections of her love for life and her ability to bring people together in celebration and camaraderie. As we remember Melanie, let us honor her by carrying forward her legacy of kindness, warmth, and joy. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Don V. Fleming, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage. Their union, celebrated in joyful matrimony on Melanie’s birthday, July 5th, 1996, was a testament to love and partnership. A loving mother, she is survived by her daughter, Nikki Tripp Eggerton (Brian); her son, Michael Groce; her treasured grandchildren, Alayna Eggerton and Taylor Eggerton, who brought immense joy and pride into her life; and her bonus daughters, Teresa Fleming Martin, Malesa Fleming Webb (Glenn) and Cathy Hallman (Tim). She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Mary Legg, and her brother, Larry Legg.
