Obituary of Laura Rowe Christopher Laura Rowe Christopher passed on June 8, 2026, at the age of 55. Born on May 31, 1971, in Decatur, Alabama, Laura lived in Athens, Alabama.

Laura Sexton Christopher passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family and beloved pets, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Heath Christopher; her daughter, Elizabeth “Bess” Moore (Dean); her son, David Christopher; her mother, Mary Sexton; her sister, Kathleen Widener (Andy); and her nephew and niece, Drew and Cate Widener. She was preceded in death by her father, David Sexton.

Laura graduated from Athens State University. Later in her professional life, she pursued a career in occupational therapy, working with children in educational settings. She also dedicated her time to serving others as a volunteer tutor.

A celebration of Laura’s life will be held on Thursday, June 11, at 1:00 p.m. at First Methodist Church in Athens, Alabama.

Those who knew Laura will remember her as a gentle spirit with a wonderful sense of humor, someone who loved to laugh until tears filled her eyes. Bess and David were her pride and joy. They fondly remember that when they were young and grumpy, their mother would sing “You Are My Sunshine,” a gesture that never failed to bring smiles. Laura carried a joyful spirit and a positive outlook on life, always choosing gratitude, kindness, and grace.

Laura enjoyed football, especially college football, tennis, trips to the beach, and long walks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County, First Methodist Church of Athens, or Athens Animal Services.
