Mary Elizabeth Hunter Newell, age 82, of Summertown, TN passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. She was a native of Summertown, TN, retired secretary from Suburban Propane, and a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Hubert and Mary Pauline Pyles Hunter; her husband, Marvin Newell; and two sons, Joe Underwood and Alex Newell.
She is survived by one daughter, Tonya Newell Etheridge (Michael) of Summertown, TN; daughter-in-law, Beth Newell Burleson of Summertown, TN; four grandchildren, Paige Shuemaker (Luke) of Paducah, KY, Luke Isbell of Savannah, TN, Cheyenne Isbell of Summertown, TN, and Alexa Coleman (Gabe) of Jacksonville, FL; five great-grandchildren, Addie and Alex Isbell both of Summertown, TN, Letti and Rhen Shuemaker both of Paducah, KY, and Kylan Coleman of Jacksonville, FL. Those serving as pallbearers are Michael Etheridge, Luke Shuemaker, Luke Isbell, Keith McCafferty, Jamie Perry, and Todd Perry.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 9, 2026, and from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 10, 2026, with Mickey Brackin and Gary Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
