Courtney Mitchell Profile PhotoCourtney Lea Mitchell, 45, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026, at UMMC in Jackson as the result of an automobile accident. Though her life was far too short, the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the compassion she showed others will never be forgotten.

Courtney was born in Amory on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1981, to Charles and Doris Camp Mitchell. She was a graduate of Hatley High School, Class of 1999. From a young age, Courtney knew that her purpose in life was to help others and make a difference in the world. That calling led her to Itawamba Community College, where she earned her CLPN degree and began a career dedicated to caring for others. Courtney began her nursing career at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. She also worked part-time at River Place Nursing Center and the Care Center of Aberdeen. Nursing was more than a profession to Courtney; it was a reflection of who she was. She cared deeply for her patients, treating them with kindness, compassion, and dignity. Many of those she cared for described her as one of the greatest caregivers they had ever known. Her generous heart, outgoing personality, and genuine concern for others made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.

While Courtney devoted so much of herself to caring for others, her family was always at the center of her heart. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with those she loved and found her greatest happiness in being with her family. She was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend who had a special way of making people feel loved. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing a kind word, or bringing laughter into a room, Courtney had a gift for brightening the lives of those around her. Her love was evident not only in what she said, but in the countless ways she showed up for the people who mattered most. Courtney was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where her faith was part of the foundation of her life.

Although the sudden loss of Courtney leaves a heartbreak that words cannot fully express, her family can find comfort in the extraordinary legacy she leaves behind. In one final, selfless act of love, Courtney gave the gift of life through organ donation. Even in her passing, she will continue to make a difference, offering hope and a second chance to others. It is a beautiful reflection of the life she lived—a life devoted to helping people, caring for others, and giving of herself. Courtney’s time on this earth may have been far too brief, but the impact of her life will endure. She will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her generous spirit, her infectious personality, and, above all, the love she gave so freely. Though her family and friends must now learn to live without her physical presence, a part of Courtney will live on in every life she touched and in the precious lives she has helped save.
