Nelson Gilreath age 78 of Smithville passed away Monday night June 1, 2026, at Tri Star Centennial Medical Center. He was born January 31, 1948, to his parents the late Dallas Gilreath and Jewell Young Gilreath Medley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Clyde Medley. Mr. Gilreath was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and attended Allen’s Chapel Church and worked as a Lab Tech. Nelson is survived by wife, Fay Gilreath of Smithville; daughter, Tarron (Bobby) Huddleston of Norene; step-sons, Shane Cook and Nathan Cook; grandchildren, Colby Huddleston of Murfreesboro, Heath Daugherty, Quentin Cook, Taylor (Olivia) Cook; great-grandchildren, Ivy Cook, Aiden Cook, Winston Cook, Ellie Daugherty, Lane Daugherty, and Cami Daugherty; special friend, Larry Caldwell. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, June 5, 2026, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Darrell Gill officiating and burial to follow in Taylor Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 10 AM until the time of the service at 2 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations may be made to Allen’s Chapel Church building fund in memory of Mr. Gilreath. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Gilreath family.
