Carol Counts Key passed on May 28, 2026, at the age of 85; born November 20, 1940, in Alabama, Carol later lived in Decatur, Alabama.Ms. Key passed away on May 28 at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care following a stroke a week earlier. She was born on November 20, 1940 in Lawrence County to Ewell Clyde Counts and Cullie Wallace Counts.
She was a stay at home mother until her children were grown and then she was employed and retired from The Morgan County Courthouse.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother Ewell Dwight Counts.
She is survived by her son, Rand W. Key of Houston, TX, a daughter Missey Nichols Howell (Jack) of Decatur, and her pride and joy granddaughter Meredith Lee Nichols of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by her sister in law, Judy Folk Counts of Decatur and niece Kelly Counts Cannady (Clinton) of Huntsville, AL.
In keeping with her wishes, no funeral is planned but her loved ones will celebrate her life privately. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Riverside Senior Living, Huntsville Hospital, and Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care for their kindness and compassion.
