Nannette (Nan) Diggle Smith, beloved wife and mother, passed peacefully to her eternal reward on May 17, 2026, in Katy, Texas, surrounded by family members.
Nan was born in Tuscumbia Alabama, August 10, 1942, to Frederick James Diggle and Leona Muenzenberger Diggle. She graduated from Deshler High School in.1960 and married William Earl “Buster” Smith April 4, 1964. She and Buster are the parents of 4 children. She spent most of her life in Muscle Shoals, and moved to Katy, Texas in 2023 due to her and Buster’s declining health.
Nan is remembered as a friendly, generous woman, who loved her family fiercely, and treasured her animal companions. She was talented in many areas, including painting, drawing, needlework, sewing, singing, and playing piano and organ. She also enjoyed listening to music, cooking, and shopping to buy gifts for her children, grandchildren, and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Even when she was suffering illness and pain, she always asked visitors how they were doing and tried to share love with them by looking for something to give them. This included medical staff and doctors, as well as family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Marie Woodis, Diane Holt, and Eleanor Hovater. Her brother Fred Diggle lives in Birmingham, Alabama.
She is survived by her husband, Buster, 4 children, Brackin (Patti), Carrie Latham (Daryl), Jeff, and Chris (Michael Burlingame), 7 grandchildren, Isaiah Smith (Rebecca), Melanie Latham, Alec Smith (Raquel), Abby Latham (Emily Adams), Kyle Smith (Erin), Benjamin Latham, and Rose Smith-Burlingame. and 8 great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 22, 10am at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church in Katy, Texas. Burial will follow in June at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
