Mona Whitt of Haleyville, Alabama passed away on October 17, 2026. She was born in
Haleyville on July 17, 1928 to W. C. and Maggie Dillard Evans. A 1945 graduate of Haleyville
High School, she attended Auburn University where she met her life-long partner, James Whitt.
They were married in June of 1947 and enjoyed 69 years of marriage before his death in 2016.
For over 50 years, they worked side-by-side as owners of Whitt Jewelry Company where Mona
assisted many in our community in selecting gifts and wedding rings. Many young girls went to
Mrs. Whitt to have their ears pierced and selected their first earrings.
Mona was a faithful member of Ninth Avenue Church of Christ. She cherished her church
family and lived out her faith each day by sharing her love and kindness with everyone she met.
An avid sports fan, she traveled frequently to support her Haleyville Lions and Auburn Tigers. In
her later years, she was always aware of what sports programming was available on television
or radio and spent many hours watching whatever sport event that was available – football,
baseball, basketball, golf or the Olympics. She was especially interested in following the athletic
pursuits of her great-grandchildren, but always reminded them that academics should be their
first priority.
Her visitation will be Wednesday October 21, 2026 from 2:30PM – 4:00PM at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, AL. A Graveside Service will be at 4:30PM in Winston Memorial Cemetery. Dr. Nathan Carroll officiating.
