Martin Paul Horzempa, 75, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on June 18. Three weeks earlier, he had celebrated his 75th birthday with friends and family.
Martin was born in Syracuse, NY on June 3, 1950, son of the late John and Barbara Horzempa (Marsden). He graduated from Hazel Green High school and attended Christian Brother’s College. After operating Mando’s Italian restaurant, he owned and operated the Jolly Green Thumb plant and floral shop for over 40 years. He spent the last ten years supporting his sister in her engineering company building hardware for the International Space Station to investigate better methods to grow plants in space and other interesting projects. He also provided invaluable mentorship for his niece in starting her successful business. He enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends, snow skiing, and co-hosting Monday Night Dinner.
He was known for his dry wit, work ethic, intelligence, and caring for others. He could tell you what the name of every plant and flower was and he loved to have intellectual conversations with others.
He is survived by his son, Martin Ross Titus (Kristine) of Gainesville, GA; honorary daughter, Tami Renae Titus of Wheaton, IL.; grandson, Jared Tipton Titus of Chicago, IL; brothers, John, Steve, and Robert Horzempa (Donna); sisters, Holly Grems (Larry), Laurie Smith, Sherrie Tomlin (Jack), and Tamra Ozbolt (Nolan); and numerous nephews and nieces. He cherished his special and loving relationship with Susan McClaskey.
Martin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Vicky, with whom he enjoyed many wonderful adventures, raising their family, and working together.
A memorial service will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Bill Crosby officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) https://give.cancerresearch.org/site/Donation2
