Charles Michael Sargent, Jr.Charles Michael Sargent, Jr., age 73 passed away peacefully November 13, 2018. Born and raised in New York City, NY. Honorable veteran of the U.S. Navy. Moved to Franklin as manager of the John Hancock Ins. Co. He then started his State Farm Ins. Co. in Green Hills in 1975. He became Williamson County Commissioner in the Grassland Community while serving as county commissioner, he served in various committees and chaired the budget committee and the regional planning commission. He successfully filled the vacant seat of State Rep. Clint Callicott in 1996. He remained the 61st State Representative until his passing. He served in various committees and subcommittees and in 2010 he was elevated and offered the position by Speaker Beth Harwell as chair of the House Finance, Ways and Means Committee. His love and passion was serving the great State of Tennessee. He stood strong in supporting public education and being active in the expansion of Columbia State Community College in Williamson County. More importantly, he was a dedicated friend and family man to his wife, children and Grandad to his two beautiful girls. Preceded in death by parents, Charles Michael, Sr. and Marion Geagan Sargent and sister, Carole Dowd. Survived by: wife of 41 years, Nancy Sargent; daughter, Margaret (Dave) Mahew; sons, Robert Davidson (Cindi) Gurley and David Shawn Sargent; grandchildren, Savannah and Adelyn Gurley; sister in law, Gwynn DuBose; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church 101 Legends Club Ln., Franklin, TN 37069. Speakers will be Rev. Kevin Brooks, County Mayor, Rogers Anderson, Rev. David Kidd, Speaker of the House, Beth Harwell and Rev. Chris Joiner. Interment Williamson Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers, Bob Sloan, Rogers Anderson, Charles Wilson, Steve McDaniel, Tim Adgent, Jeff Mosley, Rick Buerger and Phillip Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be C.Y. Market Coffee Club, Manor of Ashton Park Neighbors, Franklin Fire Station 6, Friends of the U.S. House General Assembly, Holly McDaniel, Mandy Young, Brandy Blanton and Tammy Martin. Memorials may be made to Columbia State Community College Building Program 1228 Liberty Pike, Franklin, TN 37067.
