Robert “Bobby” Allen Porter, passed away at home Wednesday, December 3, 2025. He was 86 years old.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willis Allen Porter and Audrey Patterson Porter and his sister Elizabeth Porter Traylor.
Bobby graduated from Jackson County High School in 1957. He worked at the Scottsboro NAPA Auto Parts store for 47 years as an employee, manager, and co-owner. He served on the Scottsboro City Board of Education for several years and served the community as a member of the Scottsboro Lions Club for more than 50 years. During his tenure, he was voted “Lion of the Year” in 1971 and 2010, and
he also held all office positions.
An avid fan of the University of Alabama, Bobby traveled all around the United States to countless football games, including 7 national championship games. His devotion to the team inspired his daughter and two of his granddaughters to attend the school. Bobby loved the lake, and he and his wife, Ann, put great care into maintaining “Bobby’s Lake,” so named for him, and filled the summers of their family and friends with classic country music, boat rides, and the best ribs in the world.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Kennamer Porter; their daughter, Kristin Porter Maples, and son-in-law, John Wade Maples III, of Scottsboro; and their three granddaughters: Anna Maples of Huntsville, Willa Maples of Huntsville, and Lucy Maples of Scottsboro; as well as several nieces and
nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Scottsboro Lions Club.
