The funeral service for Pauline Waites Shirey, age 76 of Talladega, will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Bro. Wayne Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Poplar Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Shirey passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Clay County Hospital. She was born in Talladega County near the Rendalia Community and worked for most of her life as a textile spinner. Mrs. Shirey loved being outside, visiting neighbors on her scooter and loafering around. She attended Harvest Field Church.
Mrs. Shirey is survived by four daughters: Norma McGrady (Marshall) of Sycamore, Barbara Edmondson (Gary) of Chandler Springs, Mary Nash (Jack) of Talladega and Wanda Morrison (Buddy) of Lincoln; one son, George Shirey Jr. (Sandi) of Chandler Springs; one brother, T.C. Waites of Rendalia; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Taul Columbus Waites and Emma Turner Waites; two sisters: Jewel Moore and Maudie Cruise; one brother, William “Bill” Waites; one granddaughter, Brittany Morrison and one great-grandson, Dillon Sargent.
Pallbearers will be Blake Jones, Brett Morrison, Matthew Morrison, Timmy Shirey, Tyler Shirey, Alex McGrady and Zander DeAlto.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland.
